A small, benign bone tumour of young people that causes a characteristic night pain relieved by simple pain-killers.

Its hallmark is a boring pain that is worse at night and is typically eased by aspirin and similar pain-killers.
At its centre is a small area called the nidus, surrounded by a ring of dense, thickened bone.
The nidus is best shown on a CT scan as a small lucent spot within the dense bone.
It is benign and does not turn malignant, and the pain settles once the nidus is removed or burns out.
