Disorders of the master gland at the base of the brain, from too much or too little of its hormones, or from pressure by a tumour.
Pituitary (master gland) disorders: over-secretion (prolactin gives milk and infertility, growth hormone gives acromegaly, ACTH gives Cushing's disease); a tumour presses the optic chiasm (bitemporal field loss); under-secretion is hypopituitarism; posterior gives diabetes insipidus (dilute urine, thirst).
