An intensely itchy skin infestation by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei — worse at night, with burrows in the finger webs and flexures. Treat the patient AND all close contacts together.
All ages; spreads by prolonged skin-to-skin contact and in crowded households/institutions.
First-line topical scabicide
Caution: Treat contacts simultaneously; decontaminate linens; post-scabetic itch is not treatment failure.
Alternative/adjunct; crusted scabies; outbreaks
Caution: Use with caution in young children/pregnancy per guidance.
