The simple idea (no memorising)
Picture two soft straws lying side by side in the early embryo — the Müllerian ducts. Their tops stay open and become the fallopian tubes. Their bottoms join together in the middle and become the uterus, cervix and the upper part of the vagina.
The lower part of the vagina is built from a different piece (the urogenital sinus), which is why the vagina has, in effect, two origins meeting in the middle.

The one fact to hold onto
The ovary does not come from the Müllerian ducts. It grows from a separate ridge of tissue. So it is entirely possible to have working ovaries but a missing or malformed womb — the two are built by different construction crews. Keep this in your pocket; it is the secret behind a condition called MRKH that you'll meet in Part 7.
Male and female are cousins
Many male and female parts are homologues — they grow from the same starting bud, just in two directions. It's the same clay shaped two ways.

Why it matters
Understanding the build tells you which problems are possible. If two ducts must form, fuse, and then have their middle wall dissolve, then each of those three steps can fail — and each failure gives a different, predictable shape of womb (Concept 24).
