Take a deep breath and let's start at low power. Notice the overall shape of the lumen; it's irregular and star-shaped, a classic sign of the ureter. Before you zoom in, observe the layers around the lumen. You should see a thick muscular wall and a prominent lamina propria. The key feature here is the transitional epithelium, or urothelium, which lines the lumen. Students often mistake this for other tubular structures by focusing too soon on the cellular details. Remember, it's the combination of the star-shaped lumen and the urothelium that confirms the ureter. So, start broad, identify the shape, then focus on the lining. This methodical approach will help you avoid common pitfalls and gain confidence.
