Answer it out loud, in one sentence, before you look. That is the whole exercise.
Do not spray five unrelated facts hoping one is the one they wanted.
Answer the question asked, in one sentence, then stop and let them ask the next.
Do not open with "I think it might be…".
State it plainly. If you are unsure, say what you can see and what it makes you favour.
Do not name the structure and then go silent.
Name it and give the one feature that proves it. That is the senior answer: "This is X. The identifying feature is Y."
Do not argue when corrected.
Take the correction, restate it correctly once, and move on. Examiners mark recovery.
Do not pad a gap with words you cannot defend.
Say you do not know that one, and offer what you do know about it. A short honest answer costs one mark; a bluffed one invites three more questions.
