A regular narrow-complex tachycardia arising above the ventricles (commonly AV-nodal re-entry) — sudden palpitations, often in a young, otherwise-well person. Vagal manoeuvres and adenosine usually terminate it.
Often young and healthy; triggers include caffeine, alcohol and stress; also structural heart disease or pre-excitation (Wolff–Parkinson–White).
Terminate SVT when vagal manoeuvres fail
Caution: Causes a brief sinus pause; avoid in pre-excited/irregular broad-complex tachycardia; caution in asthma.
