A PHC's refrigerator broke down over a weekend in May. On Monday, the vials looked fine. But the vaccine vial monitor (VVM) on the OPV vials had changed colour, showing heat damage. The ANM discarded them and got fresh stock. Without the VVM, dozens of children would have received useless vaccine and believed they were protected.
