In 2020–21, India faced two massive waves of COVID‑19. Oxygen shortages in the second wave (Delta variant, 2021) were heartbreaking. India also ran one of the world's largest vaccination drives, giving over 220 crore doses through the CoWIN digital platform. Many lessons from this experience are now built into India's emergency preparedness.
