Modern terminology separates HRS-AKI, HRS-AKD and HRS-CKD. AKI in cirrhosis can be diagnosed by creatinine rise of 0.3 mg/dL within 48 hours, 50% rise from baseline within 7 days, and/or low urine output criteria. But the label HRS-AKI should wait until shock, nephrotoxins, obstruction, structural renal disease and true volume depletion have been assessed.
