The pituitary lies under the optic chiasm and between cavernous sinuses. Upward growth causes bitemporal field loss, lateral growth causes diplopia or ptosis, and stalk compression can modestly raise prolactin. Cortisol deficiency is the dangerous pituitary deficit.
