ICC (KIT‑positive, ANO1 Ca²⁺‑activated Cl⁻ channel) generate slow waves conducted through the SIP syncytium (smooth muscle cells, ICC, PDGFRα⁺ cells). Slow waves are not action potentials; when their plateau crosses threshold, Ca²⁺ spike potentials (L‑type channels) fire and drive contraction. Force ∝ number of spikes per slow wave.
