The reasoning: coupled flux spends a stored gradient
A cotransporter couples the downhill electrochemical movement of one ion (usually Na⁺) to the uphill movement of another solute. The maximum achievable concentration ratio rises with stoichiometry: SGLT1, carrying 2 Na⁺ per glucose, can concentrate glucose far more than SGLT2 (1:1).
