The reasoning: basolateral pump, apical coupling, leaky epithelium
Basolateral Na⁺/K⁺‑ATPase powers apical secondary active transport; leaky tight junctions allow paracellular water, Cl⁻ and K⁺ flux. The PCT reabsorbs ~65% of Na⁺ and water (isosmotically), ~100% of glucose and amino acids, ~80–90% of HCO₃⁻, ~80% of phosphate, ~65% of K⁺, ~60% of Ca²⁺, ~50% of urea; it secretes organic anions and cations (OATs/OCTs), and generates NH₄⁺ from glutamine.
