Before you name anything
Take a deep breath and let's start at low power. Look at the overall shape and structure. Notice the layers? This is key. You’re looking for a tube with a multi-layered wall. Now, focus on the lining. It’s stratified squamous epithelium, which is a hallmark of the oesophagus. The presence of submucosal glands is another clue. Students often rush to high power and get lost in the details. Stay calm, identify the layers first, and then look for those glands. That’s your anchor. Remember, the oesophagus transitions from skeletal to smooth muscle, but don’t worry about that here. Just focus on the epithelium and glands.
