Notice the spherical structures scattered throughout the field; these are the follicles. Now, focus on the lining of these follicles. They are lined by simple cuboidal epithelium, and the centre is filled with a pinkish substance called colloid. This is your key feature. Students often rush to high power and get lost in the details, but remember, identifying the follicles and their colloid is what confirms this as the thyroid gland. So, start broad, identify the follicles, and then look at the lining. That’s your way in. If you see these features, you’re on the right track. Keep calm, and you’ll do just fine.
