The reasoning: portal pressure can be prehepatic or presinusoidal
Not all varices mean cirrhosis. Extrahepatic portal-vein obstruction is prehepatic obstruction of the portal vein, often with cavernoma formation. Porto-sinusoidal vascular disease is an umbrella for non-cirrhotic portal hypertension within the small portal venous system; older exam language may say non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis.
