The reasoning: marrow crowding plus subtype-specific danger
AML is a clonal myeloid neoplasm with impaired differentiation. It presents through marrow failure: anaemia, infection, bleeding, bruising, mucosal bleeding, and sometimes tissue infiltration such as gingival or skin disease. Diagnosis integrates smear, flow, marrow and genetics; some genetic AML entities no longer need a simple 20 percent blast rule.
