The simple idea
The blockage can involve small hepatic veins, large hepatic veins, the inferior vena cava or the route toward the right atrium, excluding heart and pericardial causes. Think of Budd-Chiari when abdominal pain, tender hepatomegaly and ascites appear together, especially with thrombophilia, myeloproliferative neoplasm, pregnancy/postpartum state, oral contraceptive exposure or unexplained clotting.
