The simple idea
A complete blood count is a story in three lines: red cells, white cells and platelets. For white cells, look at the absolute count and the blood smear, not just the total WBC. A high count can be infection, inflammation, steroid effect or a blood cancer. A low count can be drugs, viral illness, autoimmune disease or marrow failure.
