Central control: hypothalamus (PVN, lateral), PAG, nucleus tractus solitarius (visceral afferent hub), RVLM (sympathetic premotor; sets vasomotor tone), nucleus ambiguus and dorsal motor nucleus of vagus (cardiac and visceral vagal outflow), insula and medial prefrontal cortex (central autonomic network).
