Normal WBC ≈ 4–11 × 10⁹/L. Approximate absolute counts: neutrophils 2.0–7.5, lymphocytes 1.0–4.0 (higher in children), monocytes 0.2–1.0, eosinophils 0.04–0.4, basophils < 0.1 × 10⁹/L. Ethnic variation matters (benign ethnic neutropenia in people of African and some Middle Eastern ancestry).
