The auditory pathway: cochlea → cochlear nerve (CN VIII) → cochlear nuclei (brainstem) → superior olive (both sides compare) → lateral lemniscus → inferior colliculus → MGN (thalamus) → auditory cortex (temporal lobe, Heschl's gyrus).
