Denis three‑column model: anterior (anterior longitudinal ligament + anterior two‑thirds of body/disc), middle (posterior third of body/disc + posterior longitudinal ligament), posterior (posterior elements + ligaments). Two‑column injury (especially middle column) = unstable. Modern TLICS / AO Spine systems add morphology, neurology and the posterior ligamentous complex (MRI).
