A chronic alcoholic with epigastric pain radiating to his back has a CT. Region: upper abdomen. Organ: pancreas. Lesion: swollen, bulky gland with fluid around it. Density: soft tissue with surrounding fluid, and some areas that don't enhance. Diagnosis: acute (necrotising) pancreatitis. The method led straight there.
