In real life
A woman with breast cancer has back pain. Her X‑ray looks normal. She is injected with a tracer that sticks to bone wherever bone is being remodelled. Three hours later, the scan lights up "hot spots" in several vertebrae and ribs: the cancer has spread to bone. The bone activity showed up before the X‑ray could see any damage.
