In real life
A 58‑year‑old smoker has a 2 cm lung cancer. Before surgery, he has a PET‑CT. The tumour glows, but so does a small lymph node in the middle of his chest and a spot in his adrenal gland, both invisible as cancer on CT alone. The plan changes from surgery to a different treatment. PET‑CT changed his staging.
