In real life
On 8 November 1895, Wilhelm Röntgen noticed a screen glowing across his darkened lab while he worked with a glass tube. Something invisible was escaping the tube and passing through paper and flesh. Within weeks he had an image of his wife's hand, rings and bones. That day is now celebrated as International Day of Radiology.
